No IPL in 2020???
IPL 2020, the 13th season of the most entertaining and the biggest T20 cricket carnival in the world is threatened by the Coronavirus (COVID-19).
The outbreak of this deadly virus was started in Wuhan, in China in December 2019 and has been expanded to almost the entire globe.The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared it as "global health emergency" and has rated COVID-19's risk of spread as very high. It is not the first global health emergency that has been declared by the WHO. WHO has also declared: Swine flu in 2009,
Polio in 2014, Ebola also in 2014, Zika virus in 2016 and Kivu Ebola in 2018.
The spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) was started in India from China itself when a medical student who returned from Wuhan University to Kerala was tested positive for Coronavirus on 30th January, 2020. It was the country's first case. On February 2nd, second case was confirmed, thereafter followed by numerous cases.
This outbreak of the deadly virus has threatened the 13th season of the Indian Premier League which is scheduled to start at end of March . The Government Of India has cancelled foreign visas. The Ministry Of External Affairs Of India (MEA) has advised BCCI to not conduct this year's IPL due to Coronavirus outbreak. MEA spokesperson, Raveesh Kumar has addressed the media saying that it is up to the organizers to decide whether or not to conduct this year's IPL.
The IPL Governing Council will meet on Saturday 14th March, 2020 to decide the fate of this year's Indian Premier League which is scheduled to start on 29th March, 2020 in Mumbai between the defending champions Mumbai Indians and last year finalists Chennai Super Kings.
Furthermore, the Government of India has ban all tourist visas so the overseas players might not be able to take part in the tournament till 15th April.
There are also chances of IPL 2020 taking place in empty stadium, behind closed doors due to the threat of coronavirus.So, we'll have to wait for the final decision of the council till 14th April, Saturday.
